Wichita police: Man experiencing homelessness dies after falling into road, being hit by car

WICHITA, Kan. (KSNW) – A man experiencing homelessness is dead after being struck by a car in west Wichita early Sunday morning.

Just before 1:30 a.m., officers with the Wichita Police Department responded to the report of a man down in the 4800 block of W. Central Ave.

Officers spoke with the driver, who told them he had struck a person with his vehicle. Police say he stayed at the scene and is cooperating with investigators.

Investigators say the man had been walking on the sidewalk when he fell into the road and remained there for an unknown period of time. The driver did not see the man and hit him. Impairment is not suspected.

Teen arrested after hours-long standoff with police

The victim, 59-year-old Eugene Favart, was taken to a local hospital, where he died a short time later.

The investigation is ongoing.
