The best moving company in Escondido for YOU

Choosing the right moving company can feel like a big task, and the best option for you will depend on your individual needs and budget. If you’ll need storage, prioritize companies that offer reliable storage solutions. Have heavy or specialty items that require extra care? Look for movers equipped to handle bulky or oversize items. If keeping costs low is your top priority, gather and compare multiple estimates to find the best value. We suggest reaching out to at least three different movers before making your final choice.

Qshark Moving Company is our top pick for the best mover in Escondido. Operating in California and Florida, Qshark offers moving, packing, storage, heavy item moving and labor-only services. To move our three-bedroom house, we were quoted $1,380. This includes the hourly rate for four movers ($220 per hour with cash or $230 per hour with card), one truck, a $60 travel fee and all the tools necessary for the job. The company has a three-hour minimum charge for labor, and you'll need to pay a $200 deposit to book your move.

Stella Moving & Delivery serves the San Diego area and much of Southern California. They're prepared to handle local and long-distance moving, packing, storage and labor-only jobs. A four-person moving crew costs $227 per hour. Travel and fuel charges are included in the hourly rate. The company has a three-hour minimum for labor. Once the three-hour mark has passed, the rest of the job will be billed in 15-minute increments. Note that you'll need to pay a $75 deposit in advance to schedule your move.

Founded in 2014, Qshark Moving Company has locations across California and Florida. Along with a highly trained and professional moving crew, you should also expect to get your money's worth every time you use their service. The company offers a money-back guarantee, where you can get a partial (or possibly even a full) refund if any issues occur during your move. You can hire them to help with moving, packing, storage, day labor and more.

We called the business to find out how much they would charge to move a three-bedroom, 1,300 square-foot house locally within Escondido. During our phone call, we spoke with Jennifer, a sales representative with the company, who was polite, friendly and eager to hear about our move. Our move would likely cost around $1,380. This price includes the hourly labor cost for four movers, one truck, a $60 travel fee, and all the necessary tools for the job.

It's worth noting that the company offers different hourly rates depending on the payment method. The cash rate for four movers is $220 per hour. If you pay with a credit or debit card, the rate goes up to $230 per hour. We were also told that any move with a distance of more than 15 miles will cost extra, as it'll be subject to California's double drive-time rule. You'll also pay an additional fee for any heavy or specialty items that require special handling during the move.

Services offered

  • Local and long-distance moving

  • Packing

  • Storage

  • Heavy and specialty item moving

  • Commercial moving

  • Labor-only services

The movers will wrap all of your furniture in shrink wrap and moving blankets to help keep your belongings protected during the process. They'll also come prepared with dollies, straps and the tools they need to disassemble and reassemble any pieces of furniture. We were also told that the movers will bring free wardrobe boxes to help transport any clothing you have on hangers.

The company has a three-hour minimum for hour labor, so you should expect to pay at least $720 (cash) or $750 (card) for local moving services (under 15 miles). There's a $200 deposit required to book your move, which is fully refundable as long as you cancel at least 48 hours before your scheduled move date. Payments can be made with cash, card or Zelle. They don't accept checks, and there's no processing fee attached to credit and debit card payments.

All movers are drug-screened and background-checked upon hiring. The representative we spoke with told us that every mover undergoes six months of training before setting out on their first job. The company only hires full-time employees, and potential candidates need to have at least three years of moving experience to be considered for hire.

Qshark Moving Company is a BBB-accredited business with an A+ rating and only one filed complaint. It has a 4.9-star rating on Google (318 reviews) and a 4.8-star rating on Yelp (698 reviews). The business is located at 9747 Businesspark Ave., Suite #238, San Diego, Calif., 92131. It is open 24/7. To get a quote started, you can call 619-377-1134 or visit the company's website.

Stella Moving & Delivery is our top alternative Escondido moving company

The Stella Moving & Delivery crew line up for a group picture in front of a company truck
The Stella Moving & Delivery crew line up for a group picture in front of a company truck (Stella Moving & Delivery)

Stella Moving and Delivery is a young company in the moving industry, having only been around for six years. However, they've grown exponentially within such a short amount of time, with hundreds of positive reviews spanning across Google and Yelp. You can hire them for assistance with moving, packing, storage, specialty item moving and labor-only services.

We called the company to obtain an estimate of the cost to relocate a standard three-bedroom, 1,300-square-foot house locally within Escondido. We spoke with Matthew, a representative for the company. Matthew was kind, professional and happy to answer our questions. We were told that we'd likely need a team of four movers and one truck, which costs $227 per hour. The company has a three-hour minimum charge for labor, and all charges after that are billed in 15-minute increments.

Travel and fuel costs are included in the hourly rate, so you'll technically be paying for driving distance by the hour as well. Keep in mind that these travel costs are subject to California's double drive-time rule. This is a law that requires movers to compensate workers for twice the drive time it takes to travel between two locations. So if it takes about 30 minutes to drive over to your new place, you'll be billed for an hour of driving.

The moving trucks come equipped with shrink wrap, blankets and padding to protect your furniture. Mattress bags and wardrobe boxes will also be provided for your move. You'll need to fill out an inventory sheet ahead of time so that the movers know exactly what to bring (and what to expect) when they arrive at your address.

Services offered

  • Local and long-distance moving

  • Packing

  • Storage

  • Heavy and specialty item moving

  • Labor-only services

Since the company has a three-hour minimum, you should expect to spend at least $681 in labor costs. There's also a $75 deposit that you'll need to pay in advance in order to book your move. It's fully refundable as long as you cancel at least 72 hours prior to your scheduled move date. Payments can be made with cash, card or commercial check. They don't accept personal checks. It's worth noting that there's a 2.9% processing fee on all credit and debit card transactions. Seniors and military members will also receive a 5% discount. Additionally, we were told that all the movers undergo background checks.

Stella Moving & Delivery is a BBB-accredited business with an A+ rating and no filed complaints. It has a 4.9-star rating on Google (706 reviews) and a 4.8-star rating on Yelp (336 reviews). The business is located at 2341 Ulric St., B-12, San Diego, Calif., 92111. It is open from 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day of the week. To get an estimate started, you can call 619-393-6426 or visit its website.

BLVD Moving is the best national moving company

At Yahoo Local, we work hard to highlight exceptional local businesses, but we also recognize that national moving companies can sometimes be the better option, especially for long-distance relocations. After evaluating several nationwide providers, we selected BLVD Moving as our top recommendation on our list of the best national movers. If you’re deciding between a local or national company, be sure to explore our full comparison guide for additional guidance.

BLVD Moving is run by a team of seasoned professionals with decades of experience in the relocation field. Although the company currently operates four offices in California, it provides both local and long-distance moving services nationwide. Family-owned and independently operated, BLVD manages its own fleet and employees, though its terms note that subcontractors or agents may occasionally assist during busy periods, which is a common practice in the industry but still worth keeping in mind.

We reached out to BLVD for a quote on a 500-mile move involving roughly 1,340 cubic feet of belongings, comparable to the contents of an average three-bedroom home without major appliances. The estimate they provided was around $6,700, which aligns with what other national moving companies typically charge. To reserve your spot, BLVD requires a 33% deposit, with half of the remaining balance due at pickup and the rest payable upon delivery.

Services offered

  • Local and long-distance moves

  • Residential, office and commercial moves

  • Packing services

  • Storage

  • Financing

If your plans change, BLVD allows cancellations with a full deposit refund, provided you notify them at least two business days before pickup. Delivery timelines range from two to 21 business days, depending on distance. The delivery window begins on the date you choose, which means longer shipments may take just over a month to arrive.

To ensure availability, especially during peak seasons like summer or at the beginning and end of the month, BLVD recommends booking at least 30 days ahead. Getting a quote is easy: customers can schedule a virtual walkthrough or fill out an online inventory form for a faster estimate. Financing options are also available, with qualifying customers eligible for introductory rates starting at 0%.

BLVD Moving is accredited by the Better Business Bureau (BBB) with a B rating and has 99 complaints on file, a normal figure for a mover of its size. Customer ratings average 4.5 stars on Google (based on 1,341 reviews) and 2.3 stars on Yelp (376 reviews). All movers are direct employees who undergo background checks, rather than independent contractors.

BLVD’s headquarters are located at 21622 Plummer Street, Chatsworth, Calif., 91311. Operating hours are 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. To request a quote, call 844-274-0500 or submit a request online.

California moving FAQs

What info should you have when requesting an estimate?

What you’ll need to provide for a moving estimate differs from one company to another and depends on how detailed their pricing process is. Some movers ask only for the basics, like your home’s square footage, number of bedrooms and the pickup and drop-off locations. Others won’t offer a firm quote until they’ve reviewed a complete inventory of everything you plan to move.

At a minimum, be ready to share the size of your current and new homes, the full addresses and any information about large or specialty items that may require extra care. Many companies charge additional fees for belongings that exceed certain weight limits, so providing this information upfront can help you avoid unexpected costs. You’ll also want to note whether either location has stairs or elevators, since movers commonly add extra fees for those factors.

What should you know about packing and storage in California?

Depending on your location in California, temperatures can remain relatively warm to hot for most of the year. In Escondido, for example, average temperatures typically range from 45°F to 84°F and seldom fall below 38°F or rise above 91°F, according to Weather Spark.

Items like electronics, art supplies, synthetic fabrics, cosmetics, and medications are particularly vulnerable to heat and should be moved in a climate-controlled vehicle. If you need storage, investing in an indoor or climate-regulated unit is a smart way to ensure these belongings stay protected.

What's different about condo and apartment moving in California?

Moving into or out of an apartment or condo often means dealing with stairs. Many moving companies charge extra for hauling belongings up multiple flights, and some also add fees for elevator use. You may not incur an additional charge for just one flight, but if your unit is located on the third floor or higher, it’s likely you’ll face an extra fee.

Do you need moving permits or licenses to move in California?

All moving companies working within California must have a Household Mover Permit — commonly called a Cal-T number — issued by the Bureau of Household Goods and Services (BHGS). This requirement is strictly enforced to protect customers from unlicensed movers who may not follow proper protocols or carry adequate insurance. Licensed movers in California are also required to display their Cal-T number on all advertisements, websites, vehicles, and contracts.

For more information, check out our comprehensive guide on California’s moving company licensing and regulations.

How much should you tip movers in California?

A common guideline for tipping movers is to offer between 10% and 20% of your total moving bill. This applies to both local and long-distance moves. However, tipping is completely optional, as it’s simply a way to show appreciation for good service. If the movers don’t meet your expectations, you’re not required to leave a tip.
